{"id":100650,"date":"2025-10-09T17:32:20","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T17:32:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/?p=100650"},"modified":"2025-10-09T22:47:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T22:47:50","slug":"tilbury-lng-is-a-strategic-advantage-for-b-c-says-singapore-based-expert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/?p=100650","title":{"rendered":"Tilbury LNG is a strategic advantage for B.C., says Singapore-based expert"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At the Resource Works&#8217; <em>Get It Done<\/em> conference on Sept. 22, Bloomberg New Energy Finance\u2019s Global Head of Gas, Fauziah Marzuki, spotlighted British Columbia\u2019s Tilbury LNG facility as an example of how Canada\u2019s natural gas can serve both global shipping and domestic energy security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Why Tilbury LNG matters for B.C.\u2014and the world\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PaJJHSVwoOc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The main-stage <a href=\"https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/british-columbia-has-become-an-lng-province-so-whats-next\/\">conversation<\/a> with former premier Christy Clark and Stewart Muir, President &amp; CEO of Resource Works. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marzuki outlined where natural gas fits into the world\u2019s energy future. She noted that while gas use in buildings is flat and industrial demand continues to grow, transport is the sector where natural gas stands out across all major outlooks. Shipping, she explained, has \u201cvery, very few other cost-competitive replacements,\u201d which is why LNG bunkering has \u201ctremendous potential.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BC is already positioned to benefit. As a fuel provider, Tilbury is \u201cat the forefront for ferries and early adoption,\u201d Marzuki said, and \u201ca lot of ships are going to be fueled by LNG in the future. FortisBC supplies natural gas from Northeast BC which is liquified at Tilbury, and made available for marine fueling. The LNG is then loaded onto <em>Seaspan Lions<\/em>, a dedicated bunkering vessel operated by Seaspan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Lions<\/em> sails out to refuel ferries, container ships, and visiting international vessels in local waters.&nbsp; Each transfer a reminder of how Canadian energy ties the province\u2019s resource base to global trade.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"769\" src=\"https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Seaspan-Lions-1-1024x769.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-100651\" srcset=\"https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Seaspan-Lions-1-1024x769.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Seaspan-Lions-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Seaspan-Lions-1-768x577.jpg 768w, https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Seaspan-Lions-1-1536x1153.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Seaspan-Lions-1-2048x1537.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Seaspan Lions bunkering vessel at anchor. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marzuki also said Tilbury-style facilities could help supply Pacific Island nations that require smaller parcels of LNG for local power plants. These aren\u2019t markets for mega-projects, but nimble developers \u201cwith the right ecosystem\u201d could capture them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At home, she highlighted natural gas\u2019s role in \u201cpeaking services,\u201d the ability to meet sudden spikes in demand during cold winters or supply crunches (a role Tilbury has played for BC since 1971). Small liquefaction and storage facilities across the country could relieve pipeline congestion, reduce price volatility, and ensure energy security. \u201cIt\u2019s a whole recipe that works really well together: ensuring domestic demand, shoring up consumption, and using gas to decarbonize some hard-to-abate sectors,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taken together, her remarks underscored that Canadian LNG is not only a local resource.
