We found that after two consecutive years where direct resource companies were not the majority of public firms, once again such companies make up more than 50 per cent:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"552\" src=\"https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/nu-top100trend-1024x552.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-87994\" srcset=\"https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/nu-top100trend-1024x552.png 1024w, https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/nu-top100trend-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/nu-top100trend-768x414.png 768w, https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/nu-top100trend.png 1067w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For 2018, 52 companies directly involved in forestry, mining, and energy show up in the Top 100 list. It is the first time since 2014 that the majority of companies were in resources. Actually, the high-tech boom occurring through the economy seems to be happening in resources just as much as anywhere else, and in the past Resource Works has worked to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/resourcework2.devstudio.work\/hightech-driver\">explain this trend<\/a>&nbsp;more deeply.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The number one resource company for 2018 is Teck Resources Ltd., followed by West Fraser Timber and Canfor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The resource-supporting companies numbered four: Finning International, Ritchie Bros Auctioneers, Tree Island Steel, and Urthecast.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Theme photo by&nbsp;Aditya Chinchure\/Unsplash<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The idea that natural resources are receding as the driver of the provincial economy proves to be just as mythical as ever.
