Margareta Dovgal urges Ottawa to back Canada’s resource strengths with better rules and approvals

Resource Works' managing director told MPs that certainty and timely approvals are essential for Canada to seize the clean-energy moment.

On Thursday, October 30 at the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development (ENVI) in Ottawa, Resource Works’ managing director Margareta Dovgal warned that Canada’s standard of living still “relies on the production and export of in-demand commodities.”

She argued that the country’s mix of raw materials, skilled workers, and mature regulation remains a competitive edge, if policymakers provide clear, durable signals to investors. She pressed for policy continuity that “cannot be easily reversed” to build long-term certainty, and called for accelerating mining approvals and reducing permitting delays so manufacturers can count on secure domestic inputs.

Dovgal also highlighted Indigenous-industry partnerships as part of a pragmatic pathway to economic reconciliation and growth.
