On August 15, Doug Horswill was announced as a member of a four-member Expert Panel to undertake the review of federal environmental assessment processes. Since 2014, Mr. Horswill served as Chairman of the Resource Works Society.
The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, made the announcement in Ottawa as a step toward delivering on its commitment to review and restore confidence in Canada’s environmental and regulatory processes.
“This is essential to ensure that decisions on major projects are based on science, facts, and evidence, including traditional knowledge of Indigenous Peoples,” said a news release from the environment ministry.
Mr. Horswill had a founding role in Resource Works and helmed the society’s board of directors from inception.
“Doug’s vision for environmental and economic harmony, informed by his seasoned strategic mind, provided invaluable guidance from Day One of Resource Works,” said Stewart Muir, executive director of Resource Works. “His beliefs around protecting the environment are in step with Canadian values and will undoubtedly help this panel to operate from a solid foundation.”
