Newest Resource Works advisor brings environmental depth

Asifa Samji guides engineering practices for a major firm and provides alumni oversight at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

Asifa Samji is vice-president and regional business leader for Stantec’s Environmental Services division in British Columbia, Alberta, and Northern Canada, and she has come on board the Resource Works Advisory Council.

“Evidence-based decision making is a central tenet of planning beneficial natural-resource projects in Canada,” said Stewart Muir, executive director of Resource Works.

“Asifa has confirmed that Resource Works is a group that can make progress toward ensuring this goal is broadly understood, and we are privileged to be able to have her join this complement of exemplary British Columbians.”

Ms. Samji provides leadership to over 700 staff consisting of environmental scientists, engineers, and project managers.  Her career has specialized in leading and growing a group of professionals through effective and efficient operations management, project and client management, business development, and staff development. She has led substantive growth within the environmental services practice area while creating a company culture that attracts and retains talented professionals and develops high performance teams. 

Ms. Samji has delivered and supported the delivery of environmental and project management services to a wide range of clients from the oil and gas, mining, commercial, and public sectors. 

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Ms. Samji served as a mentor for the Vancouver Board of Trade’s Mentorship Program, has completed a six year term as a Director on the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s Alumni Association Board, and currently serves as a board member for the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies for British Columbia.

The Resource Works Advisory Council was formed to provide community and professional perspectives on ensuring the project is relevant and on target to build awareness of the benefits to BC residents of resources done right.
